Dive Site: Howick Beach
Location: Great Kern, Northumberland
Description: Shore dive
Depth: 1 - 8 metres (3 - 26 feet)
Visibility: 1 - 8 metres (3 - 26 feet)
Rating: ****
This is a good site for training and novices. We have used it as part of the Ocean Diver open water training. It is best dived on an incoming tide. There is a 400 metre walk from the road so keep your equipment to a minimum - 10 litre cylinders are advisable. Enter by the left of the Great Kern Rock and either head north or south. To the north there are plenty of gulleys and swim throughs and the remains of an old British submarine. If you arrive as the tide is coming in you can explore the exposed gulleys before the dive for orientation. The beach is also great for barbeques and sun bathing as it is a sun trap!
