Reader Reviews:

Dive Site: Eight Acre Lake

Location: Mires Lane, North Cave, East Yorkshire

Description: New inland quarry

Depth: 14.5 metres max (48 feet)

Visibility: 3 - 4 metres in April (10 - 13 feet)

Rating: ****

Eight Acre Lake is open to divers - see review in July Sport Diver.

Open weekends 10.00 - 5.00, call for mid week 07976106575 web www.scubadream.co.uk.

Visibility is improving greatly - at times up to 15 metres due to the works being done. A Puma helicopter has been delivered and is waiting to be put in as soon as we find a container to stand in on.

If you've not been for a while you'll be pleasantly surprised at the improvements. I hope to see you soon.

I have done a number of dives here under its new ownership and previous ownership. the improvements to the visibility are excellent and I would say it is suitable novices and upwards really. There are some good attractions with a new lynx helicopter being dropped in shortly with the promise of even bigger attractions to come. A great day out, friendly staff and a good site!

This site has just re-opened and I dived it in May 08. Although they have to re-stock it with wrecks I found the water to be clear down to 13 metres. The people where very welcoming and very friendly.

Under new management reopens April 2008.

Visited eight acre lake 30/08/05 however closed (due to new opening hours). The owner - Michelle I think - opened especially for us even though there were only two of us! Thoroughly enjoyed our day, would definitely go again even though it's a 260 miles round trip.

Jacky Kennedy

I first went when it was opened, the viz was very poor but over the summer season it has got 300% better. Staff are really friendly and very accommodating it makes a fun day out if a club books it for the day. After my 1st dive would not have gone back but I'm glad I gave it a second go.

Shaun Higgins

If you live in the Humberside and Yorkshire area, this is a very convenient site - okay it's only shallow and the visibility is generally poor, but the staff are welcoming and new 'bits' are being added as and when. Be careful with your car suspension though, the approach road is a bit rough.

A useful place for training and trying out new gear AND if you can navigate here, you can navigate anywhere!

Paul Hildreth

Great place to dive, great staff, it's a definite must do! So put it on your list of places to dive and pay them a visit. Myself and a couple of members from our club have joined their membership. Take an underwater camera - there are laughs to be had!

Being a native Hull lad this site is a godsend. Access is very easy, staff willing to help with equipment, training spares and anything you throw at them. Go that extra mile to make your diving safe and enjoyable.

Steve Hart

Went there today - whoever said it was not for novices was talking rubbish! It's fine for training. The guy that runs it is very friendly and keen to give good service - free tea & coffee! Less intimidating for new divers than some of the more established sites.

Magnus Johnson, OWSI

Who needs Stoney Cove, we only dive this site when we dive inland. It's friendly, a good all round dive site and a good training place for all.

20/8/06 - Have dived here twice so far, going again tomorrow. The track is a bit rough. The viz is good at 6m, but it does get cold at about 7m (thermoclime) and the viz is worse. I think this place is great - you park near the water, it's quiet, the viz is OK, the staff are friendly, it's close to home and the coffee is free. Airfills are 4. Give it a go, you may be surprised!

Neil Norman

Excellent site, did my open water and rescue there. Dave & Michelle are very friendly with copius cups of tea & coffee (free) and a great all day brekky at 4 quid. Sites viz varies, but I have dived it with near to zero in 4 degrees and had a great time. Excellent for navigation training.

Steve

Did my open water course here. Very nice place to dive water, I was diving at around 13m, would definitely recommend it.

Stephen Brusby

As a newly qualified open water diver I found this site to be great when I visited in Nov '08. Good attractions, ok vis about 4/6m, deep enough for most and quiet. Changing rooms with heaters and toilets and tea /coffee and snacks availible. Well worth a visit!

My buddy and I checked out this site for the first time today (8th November 2009) The site staff are friendly and helpful but we did find that it was very silty and viz very low unfortunately. We did only the one dive due to this. The entrance charge is almost equal to what we'd usually pay at our fave site Capernwray, and the limited 2 years membership disappointing given that other inland site memberships with arguably more facilities (Capernwray, Stoney, Ecceston Delph, Vobster etc) never expire. If they find a way to sort out the silt problem then given it's a bit nearer to travel to than some other inland sites then even with the limited membership we may still make future visits.
