Scuba Diving in Costa Rica

Dive Site: Cueva del Tiburon (Shark's Cave)

Location: Isla del Caño, Costa Rica

Description: Sandy reef and cave

Depth: 10 - 15 metres (30 - 50 feet)

Visibility: 10 metres (30 feet)

Rating: ***

This dive is quite close to the shore so is susceptible to low visibility. As you descend down at the start of the dive there is a small hole in the rocks and then around the corner is the main 'Shark's Cave'. When we dived here there were no sharks in the cave but there were plenty of grunts and a big eye. On the sand not far from the cave were some resting white tip reef sharks. We spent a lot of time looking at the macro life in and around the rocky outcrops and discovered what looked like sand eels living within some of the encrusting corals. There were also lobsters and a moray eel in holes in the rock and butterflyfish up at the surface in the sunlight.
