The Mary Celestia was chartered by the Confederacy during America's Civil War and used as a blockade runner to smuggle guns, ammunition, supplies and food to troops in the south. It sank in 1864 after hitting a reef. Today one paddlewheel lies upright, the other lies flat on the sand.
