Location: Horshore Bay, Bermuda

Description: 825 ton wreck

Length: 50 metres (165 feet)

Depth: 24 metres (80 feet)

Visibility: 30 metres (100 feet)

Hermes was built in Pennsylvania in 1943. She was sailing en route to the Cape Verde Islands when she experienced trouble near Bermuda. She was eventually abandoned by her crew because repairs were estimated to cost more than the value of the ship. In 1984 the derelict ship became an artificial reef, sitting upright on the seabed. The wreck is hugely popular as the US Coast Guard buoy tender is almost fully intact, with cabin intact complete with toilet. The wreck has been moved from its original site by Hurricane Emily which moved the wreck 200 yards in 1987. However, the wreck still sits upright in 24m of water with the mast pointing towards the surface. The wreck is pentetrable.
